Our campaign “Against Contemporary Slavery”

This month was really busy at Gibanje. And it is all because of our campaign Against Contemporary Slavery is in full play. We dedicated it to all people who have a lack of decent work. Labor market is struggling right now in the whole Europe: there are no jobs for young people, no incentives for employers and there is no protection for workers, no appreciation for retirees. We managed to collect many pictures with important statements from around the world. We would like to thank all our partners and colleagues from Turkey, Russia, Macedonia, Serbia, France, Bulgaria, Germany and Italy. Our campaign attracts a lot of interest not only in Slovenia but also abroad. Therefore we can see how youth unemployment became Europe’s “most pressing problem”. During our campaign we have been trying to highlight the key issues and point out some possible solutions. We have collected meaningful photos and thoughts, statistics and records, as well as substantive contributions to the various segments of labor market can be found on our website and Facebook page. Right now we are actively preparing for a final conference in the end of the month to sum up everything that will be done and to create new ideas for future development. It is quite challenging for us because we are youth NGO and can’t afford big and expensive projects. But we are all trying to find some sponsors who can support our initiatives.

Additionally we hold our first Day of Open Doors at Gibanje. It proceeded in a friendly, warm businesslike atmosphere. We hope it will become a habit in our organization and more people will show an interest in collaborating with us. During this event we got some new members who are already actively included in our activities and events. Moreover, we have started a new tradition in our organization. We have an informal meeting at least every 2 weeks for all members regardless if they are active participants at Gibanje or not.

So I believe we are headed in the right direction and by our actions we won’t only attract public attention to current employment situation, but also will come up with a possible solution for this huge problem.
